1. - INTRODUCTION

Our Schinus molle essential oil is extracted from the leaves and fruits of Bolivian pink pepper trees that grow wild throughout the Andes. The Bolivian pink pepper tree is a resinous species that can grow up to 10 meters high with clusters of seeds ranging in color from green to deep red. It thrives near Andean streams at altitudes of 1900 to 3500 meters. For thousands of years our ancestors in the Andes have been familiar with this beautiful tree and used it as a medicinal plant for various purposes.

In the pharmaceutical industry, the essential oil of the fruit and leaves of Schinus molle has proved its usefulness against viral and bacterial diseasess such as the common cold, flu, asthma, bronchitis and other upper respiratory infections and as an ingredient in expectorants. In addition it is used as a disinfectant for wounds and other skin disorders such as oral thrush, herpes, acne and gingivitis. It is useful in cases of hypertension and arrhythmia and to balance menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, and symptoms of postpartum depression and and menopause. It is also used in the treatment of joint and muscle pain including arthritis, rheumatism, swelling and tearing.

It is an ingredient in the base composition of perfumes and cosmetics and in the production of creams and shampoos.

In the chemical industry it is used as an insecticide, fungicide as well as an insect and parasite repellent.
